“Anxiety birds” is an Instagram page started by Ms. Atumita Modi, an LLB student, a young kind soul from Nagpur, Maharashtra. She started this initiative to spread Mental health awareness through her page. She simply wanted to convey the message that “the way people visit a physician when they have fever similarly they can feel comfortable to seek help from a professional psychologist or psychiatrist.”
In our country, a large number of people still believe that “Mental health” is a myth. According to the survey of WHO, every one in seven people suffers from various kinds of Mental health issues in India and they predicted that by the end of the year nearly 20% of Indians will suffer from mental illnesses. Our law also states that “Mental illness has been recognized as one of the disabilities under PWD.” We never accept that Mental Illness is a thing and always thought that these things are imaginary but deep down we all know the reality. We all are also aware of the fact that mental illness existed or faced a situation where we feel numb, unconscious, nervous, or scared somewhere at any point of time in our life. But we were unable to know that this thing is related to mental illness.
Ms. Atumita Modi, a girl with a pure and kind soul, an LLB student, an Instagram Influencer from Nagpur, Maharashtra, has taken the courage and initiative to spread the “ Mental Health” awareness on the social media platform. She beautifully expressed the dark side of our society and always tried to spread motivational thoughts with her colorful creativity. She created this page when she was fighting with her mental health issues and got to know how much stigma is associated with mental health. She doesn’t want people to fall into the pit of generalizing mental health as “it’s just in your head” which demotivates a person who is fighting with some mental disorder and makes them feel that they are just overthinking which ultimately stops them from seeking help.
Her journey started way before anyone can think. When she was a child she faced some challenges but she never knew what mental health was. Because our society and education system never introduces us. She had always seen in movies depicting that mental health as scary and deadly but never knew the true aspect of it. She had several mental health problems since she was in 7th std but she acknowledged them only after she was sexually abused by her first cousin in 2018.
The main motive behind starting this initiative is that her biggest fear that her children will face the same problem and will not be able to get help, the fear of our society laughing at mental health, the fear of our next generation will be struggling because this generation too passed their mental health issues to them and the fear that millions of people struggling and dying but they are not getting the respect what they deserve.
She shared that her only inspiration is that she has to earn money and invest that money in people who are not able to get psychiatric assistance because of their financial issues. And to make people aware that seeking help is as normal as going to a physician for fever. She also shared her one special happy moment when she started to give a very small contribution to this pandemic.
But what we feel is that she didn’t give a small contribution. She’s contributing every day for the change and She’s currently working day and night in this pandemic to help as many people as she can. She had turned her page into a covid helpline and saved many lives. Her story is inspirational for everyone. She is the perfect example of the person who turned the wounds and scars into shiny glitters.
A special message from our Anxiety birds
“ Please don’t get inspired by me. Get inspired by yourself! You may find this rude, but once you start doing this you’ll live your life rather than just passing it 🙂 You’ll find a dead end once you become the person you are inspired from , but if you get inspired by yourself You’ll there will be a long way to go..and no end to it.”
